Pembroke: Renfrew County Council along with the City of Pembroke are pleased to announce that they have engaged a consulting firm to assist in the development of a Senior’s Housing Strategy for Renfrew County and area. Re/fact Consulting will lead a comprehensive review of senior services across the county which will lead to the creation of a “Seniors’ Housing Strategy” intended to assist the County of Renfrew in strategic decision making and policy development regarding seniors’ housing options. The review will include, but won’t be limited to examining services such as assisted living; supportive housing; Long-Term Care (LTC) / Community Paramedic Partnership in the client’s home; and / or additional Long-Term Care Beds. The consulting team will be reaching out to a wide range of community stakeholders as part of the study process. Members of the community will also be able to find background information and provide feedback via the County of Renfrew web site at https://www.countyofrenfrew.on.ca/en/community-services/seniors-housing-strategy.aspx It is expected that the final report will be submitted by the consultants in the Fall of 2020.
The County of Renfrew and the City of Pembroke operate two Long-Term Care homes; Bonnechere Manor, and Miramichi Lodge. These highly regarded long-term care homes located in Renfrew and Pembroke, Ontario respectively, provide a wide-range of quality long-term programs and services including 24-hour nursing care, accommodation, meals, as well as physiotherapy programs and a variety of social and recreational activities to the 346 residents who call the Manor and the Lodge “home”. A vibrant part of the community, the Manor and the Lodge offer a variety of community services such as respite care, day programs, meals on wheels and support groups.
“In response to the growing wait list for our two Long-Term Care Homes combined with the growth in the seniors population in Renfrew County; County Council passed a resolution to contract a consultant to gather options for the development of a seniors housing strategy that explores the continuum of care for seniors in our community, including consideration of expansion of long-term care beds,” stated, Warden Debbie Robinson. “We look forward to gathering information from, and working with, local municipalities, housing providers and many community stakeholders and agencies to bring forward a strategy that will give insight into this important issue.”
The County of Renfrew and the City of Pembroke will be posting information and reaching out to the community throughout this process. Feedback can be provided at seniorstrategy@countyofrenfrew.on.ca
