COUNTY OF RENFREW: The County of Renfrew is excited to announce that the County has entered into a partnership with Renfrewshire, Scotland as part of a “twinning communities” initiative.
At the regular council meeting on February 23, 2022, Warden Debbie Robinson and the Chair of Development and Property Committee, Bob Sweet, virtually welcomed Renfrewshire Council’s Provost Lorraine Cameron with a message of community solidarity and a pledge to work together on items of similar interest.
To honour the new agreement, a promotional video was created by the new partners and will be shared on all social media channels. The Renfrewshire Council and the County of Renfrew hope to build on pre-existing relationships between their respective communities, and acknowledge that these previous exchanges and personal friendships, along with the benefits they have brought to each community, have served as a foundation for this agreement.
Both parties believe it to be in their collective interest to broaden and strengthen ties between the two communities, and place similar values on cultural understanding, education, training, youth leadership, exchanges to educate citizens, and environmental stewardship. The parties also acknowledge the strong ancestral roots as a motivator in deepening the ties between these two communities.
“We’re excited to partner with Renfrewshire, Scotland,” says Chair Sweet, “Many residents of Renfrew County have strong Scottish roots, so this opportunity feels like a good way of honouring that history. This opportunity will allow us to create some great initiatives for Renfrew County residents who are thinking about travelling to Scotland, and vice versa”.
The Renfrewshire Council and the County of Renfrew have agreed to promote, support, and encourage exchanges and cooperative activities between the citizens of each community. These exchanges and activities are based on shared goals of economic development, cultural understanding, and improved municipal governance and administration.
“We look forward to the opportunities that this partnership affords and encourage all businesses and organizations to speak with our economic development team about the possibilities that exist," says County of Renfrew Warden, Debbie Robinson.
Recognizing the importance of strong and diverse economies, the parties will encourage their respective chambers of commerce and business communities to foster exchanges of entrepreneurs and business enterprises in areas such as tourism and commerce.
