Pembroke: The County of Renfrew’s Community Services Department is the recipient of the 2021 Local Champion Award from the Ontario Municipal Social Services Association.
The award was graciously accepted earlier today by Warden Debbie Robinson and the managers of Ontario Works, Child Care and Early Years, and Community Housing during a virtual ceremony.
The award is in recognition of the outstanding achievement that was realized through the creation and effective delivery of the County of Renfrew’s Human Service Integration Project in the Community Services Department.
The Human Services Integration transformation began during 2018 with the development of a local vision and plan to improve the service experience of clients accessing Ontario Works, Housing, and Child Care programs by having a ‘no wrong door philosophy’. This was achieved by uniting service delivery in the areas of bricks and mortar, processes, communications, staffing, and technology. The department’s four service hubs in the Town of Renfrew, Town of Arnprior, Village of Killaloe and City of Pembroke were renovated to bring together the Ontario Works, Housing, and Child Care programs.
Local policies and processes were shifted to enhance collaboration between programs and to simplify and improve the accessibility of services to the clients. Investments were made in supporting a healthy corporate culture through a transformative leadership approach and enhanced succession planning to retain and cross-train Community Services staff. By consolidating the Community Services offices within the County of Renfrew Administration Building, further efficiencies were realized through shared technology and equipment and created increased collaboration with other county departments.
“The Human Services Integration Project will deliver our community services in a highly efficient and effective way to our community,” said Renfrew County Warden Debbie Robinson. “Events like this one are leading the way in clearly demonstrating to the province that we are taking their initiative of modernization seriously, and that we are working together with a goal to create efficient service delivery and reduce future long-term costs through a shared counter and shared service delivery. This project will make a significant and positive difference not only to our own operations, but most importantly to our residents.”
The Ontario Municipal Social Services Association Local Champion Award recognizes the great work done in advancing excellence in human services integration and service system management by teams from Consolidated Municipal Service Managers and District Social Services Administration Boards across the province.
