County of Renfrew Long-Term Care Homes Encourage Gifting a Butterfly this Holiday Season
Looking for the perfect meaningful gift this Holiday season? County of Renfrew Long-Term Homes have you covered this year. The Butterfly Gardens at both Bonnechere Manor & Miramichi Lodge are still growing and need your help to flourish. Butterflies are available for purchase at both Bonnechere Manor and Miramichi Lodge for $100.00 each. Don Goulet, Chairperson of the Bonnechere Manor Foundation suggests it is the perfect gift in memory of a loved one, someone who currently lives at either Home or as a symbol of support with the option of having his or her name inscribed on the handcrafted fused glass butterfly created by local artist, Janet Springer, of Lake View Designs. Each butterfly purchased will be on permanent display in the corresponding Home in the “Butterfly Garden,” located outside of each dementia care unit, referred to as the Butterfly Home.
Sandra Sell, Chairperson of the Miramichi Lodge Foundation, notes that during this holiday season, for anyone who would like to purchase or sponsor a butterfly as a gift for someone else, a special card will be sent by mail. This is a beautiful gift idea for that one person you never know what to buy; purchase a butterfly of their favourite colour in their name and then give them their sponsorship card for a Christmas gift. Anyone who purchases a butterfly will also receive a charitable tax receipt.
All of the proceeds raised through the Butterfly Gardens will go directly to implementing environmental changes in both Butterfly Homes. Some of these changes may include brightly painted walls, vinyl door covers to personalize each resident’s door, interactive artwork & activities, sensory/reminiscing spaces, and more.
Shelley Sheedy, Director of Long-Term Care explains that the Homes have come up with this unique project that can be both carried out under the current COVID-19 restrictions and support the implementation of the Butterfly Approach.
