County of Renfrew Accepting Applications for Community and Allotment Gardens
PEMBROKE: The County of Renfrew in cooperation with the Province of Ontario will be accepting requests for grant funding for community garden projects amid the Covid-19 Pandemic. Community gardens allow individuals and families to grow fresh, affordable healthy produce while increasing physical activity. This funding is being provided by the Social Services Relief Fund. Community and allotment gardens must ensure that physical distancing is enforced during the project, and that participants do not gather in groups of more than five people.
Warden for the County of Renfrew, Debbie Robinson said, “Community and allotment gardens play an important role in supporting people to grow their own produce and be outside in a healthy way amid this outbreak. We are grateful for the support of the Province in this initiative that will ensure fresh food is available to the many residents of the County that are deeply impacted by the pressures of COVID-19.”
Those parties interested in submitting a project for funding consideration should email Laura LePine at LLepine@countyofrenfrew.on.ca. Deadline for submissions is Tuesday, June 30, 2020. It is important to note that submission of a request does not guarantee funding assistance from the Province in part or in full, all submissions will be reviewed on a first-come basis, and a needs basis.
