County of Renfrew Accepting Applications for Community and Allotment Gardens
PEMBROKE: The County of Renfrew in cooperation with the Province of Ontario will again be accepting requests for grant funding for community garden projects amid the Covid-19 Pandemic. Last year the program funded several community gardens that promoted growing fresh, affordable healthy produce while increasing participation and physical activity.
“We are grateful to have the continued support of the Province in delivering funding that ensures our community’s low-income and most vulnerable have fresh food available. Community and allotment gardens play an essential role in the health and happiness of residents that continue to be deeply impacted by the pandemic, “shared Warden of the County of Renfrew, Debbie Robinson.
Only applications from non-profit, charitable or government organizations are eligible for consideration of funding. Applicants must clearly demonstrate that their project will directly support food security for low-income and vulnerable persons. Community and allotment gardens must ensure that physical distancing is enforced during the project and follow the health and safety advice of the Renfrew County and District Health Unit.
Those organizations interested in submitting an application for funding consideration should email Wendy Hill at: whill@countyofrenfrew.on.ca Deadline for submissions is Friday May 14th, 2021. It is important to note that submission of a request does not guarantee funding assistance from the Province in part or in full, all submissions will be reviewed on a first-come basis, and a needs basis.
