Renfrew Reeve Peter Emon was re-elected as Renfrew County Warden during the Inaugural Session of County Council on December 10. Him nomination for Warden was seconded by Councillor Anne Giardini and moved by Councillor James Brose.

Renfrew Reeve Peter Emon was re-elected by his County Council peers during the December 10 Inaugural Session, defeating Councillor Rob Weir from the Township of Greater Madawaska.
Warden Emon was nominated by Councillor James Brose and Councillor Anne Giardini seconded the nomination. Councillor Weir was nominated by Councillor Gary Serviss and Councillor Mark Mackenzie seconded the nomination. The Office of the Warden of the County of Renfrew is for a one-year term, as provided for by the procedural by-law.
Following the official swearing-in ceremony, Warden Emon outlined his major themes and goals for the next year:
“I strongly believe we are on the right path to meet the challenges ahead and find opportunities for continued growth and advancement in the coming years,” said Warden Emon. “I have every confidence in our Council and staff, that working together with our community, we can achieve our goals.”
Continuing relationships with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, Garrison Petawawa, the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and the City of Pembroke and maintaining a strong presence at the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus, Association of Municipalities of Ontario, Rural Ontario Municipal Association and Eastern Ontario Regional Network are also among Warden Emon’s priorities.
As the nominator, Councillor Brose highlighted Warden Emon’s commitment, dedication, perseverance, passion, patience and vision as qualities he admires in the leadership demonstrated during his two terms as head of council.
“These characteristics will be necessary as we move forward in the changing political environment that will require careful planning and navigation,” Councillor Brose expressed. “Stability and experience in our local leadership will be instrumental in addressing these challenges.”
In seconding the nomination, Councillor Giardini called Warden Emon an effective leader dedicated to the County of Renfrew, but also an effective team member.
“Peter has vowed to continue to work hard on advancing the business of the County of Renfrew and I wholeheartedly second his nomination as Warden for the County of Renfrew for 2025,” she said.
Warden Emon spent 40 years as a public servant in community services and he has served on municipal council since 1988, including as Reeve of Renfrew since 2014. This will be Emon’s seventh term serving as Warden.
County Council moves to Committee of the Whole in 2025, with the committees being represented by the following chairpersons: Corporate Services – Jennifer Murphy; Operations – Glenn Doncaster; Development and Property – James Brose; Health – Michael Donohue and Community Services – Anne Giardini.
