Pembroke, ON: Recently the County of Renfrew Development and Property Committee passed a resolution that redirected funds from areas that were otherwise planned for 2020 work to be done on the trail, to the section of the Algonquin Trail within the City of Pembroke from an area near Mackay Street, East towards Rankin Street in order to move forward with opening this section of the trail for passive transportation only at this time while a review of future uses is being discussed. Work will include grading, packing and the application of stone dust on the Trail.
Chair of the County of Renfrew’s Development and Property Committee Bob Sweet said, “These trail improvements bring us one step closer to linking the sections of the Algonquin Trail through the City of Pembroke to the section we opened last year near College Way. The committee is pleased to see another section being completed so that residents can experience the convenience and beauty the Algonquin Trail has to offer.”
The improvements are expected to take approximately a week to complete, and that section of trail remains closed during the improvement project. The work is being conducted by GP Splinter Construction & Forest Products Limited, who were contracted through the County of Renfrew’s procurement policy.
The Algonquin Trail is owned and managed by the County of Renfrew in Partnership with Lanark County and the Township of Papineau-Cameron.
