County of Renfrew Inclusion Services provides support to licensed childcare programs (nursery schools, childcare centres, and home childcare agencies), as well as approved recreation programs, that promote the inclusion of children with special needs* within the County of Renfrew.
*As defined in the Child Care and Early Years Act, a child with special needs means a child whose cognitive, physical, social, emotional, or communicative needs, or whose needs relating to overall development, are of such a nature that additional supports are required for the child.

What's the process? |
Once referred, the child will be placed on an Inclusion Coordinator’s caseload, who will reach out to the child’s parent(s)/guardian(s) to complete an intake to gain additional information. The Inclusion Coordinator will then hold a Team Meeting with the child’s parent(s)/guardian(s), childcare staff and any other individuals involved, to discuss the child’s competencies, and to develop goals within the program. Following that, the Inclusion Coordinator will then complete routine visits and consultations with the childcare staff to provide recommendations based on the goals developed at the Team Meeting, as well as observations completed within the program. The Inclusion Coordinator will complete an Individual Program Plan in conjunction with the Early Years Supervisor to outline specific methodology to achieve the goals established during the Team Meeting. |
Additional Supports |
Additional supports provided by Inclusion Services may be in the form of environmental observations, providing resource materials, providing enhanced staffing to the program, and/or training/workshops for staff. These supports will be determined by the Inclusion Coordinator based on observations, needs assessments, data collection, and other supporting documentation of the child attending childcare. |
