The Council Code of Conduct sets standards for the behaviour of Council Members in carrying out their functions. It has been developed to assist Council and Members to:
- Understand the standards of conduct that are expected of them and the law that applies in relation to these standards
- Fulfill their duty to act honestly and exercise reasonable care and diligence
- Act in a way that enhances public confidence in local government
- Identify and resolve situations which might involve a conflict of interest or a potential misuse of position and authority
The Code of Conduct outlines each individual's responsibility to uphold these principles and values, and act in the public interest.
Integrity Commissioner
The integrity commissioner is an independent and impartial position that reports directly to County of Renfrew Council. The integrity commissioner is responsible for:
- Advising County Council members of their duties under the Council Code of Conduct
- Receiving and reviewing complaints made by a member of Council, a staff member or the public concerning a breach of the Code of Conduct
- Deciding whether and how to investigate complaints about County Council members' conduct
- Reporting outcomes and recommendations to Council if there is an investigation
